History of "The Diplomats" - From Waterloo to Toronto

Why "The Diplomats" you ask?

Well, the members of The Diplomats started playing together many years ago. Their first band together was 5 musicians, and was called The Datsun Five (named after one of the band members' vehicles, a 'Datsun'). The band pleased jazz lovers like yourself all around the Kichener-Waterloo area.

However, over time the band changed. For a few years we were a quartet. But since we had made a name for ourselves as The Datsun Five, we stuck with the name. It was a bit confusing...especially for the audience looking for that 5th member!

Then we became a trio. And being the Datsun Five just didn't make any sense at all. So we became The Datsun Trio.

And if the story ended there, we'd still be The Datsun Trio. But then we started to play as a quartet again, and also started getting requests for different combinations of duos, trios and the quartet.

So in the end, we decided it's time for a new name, that's not associated with a number! And in true Datsun Five spirit, the name again came from the car of one of the band members - 'The Diplomat'.

With all that said, we currently perform primarily as a trio, with piano, bass and drums, aiming to please music lovers like you.

A long story for something so simple.
